Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, one will obey my teaching. My Father will love hi, and we will come to him and make our home with him. John 14:23
God is at work in our world. He is at work with where you are at. God takes the initiative to invite us to join him with His work. We make the adjustments in our lives to join His work and then We get to the place of obedience. How do you feel about obedience? Is it hard for you to be obedient to God?
We have to obey Him first. He then will work through us. When God does a God-sized work through us we get to know him through this experience. Obedience is the outward expression of your love for God. The reward for obedience and love is that he will reveal himself to us. If you have an obedience problem, you have a love problem. God is love. He is always best. God is all knowing. His directions are always right. God is all powerful. He can enable you to do his will. If you love him, you will obey him!
Jesus said that whoever does the will of My Father, in heaven is my brother and sister and mother (Matthew 12:50). Doing the will of the father is being obedient to God. In James 2:20 says, Faith without works is dead. James is indicating that without obedience, our faith is dead. It has no life. When the disciples obeyed Jesus, they saw and experienced God’s mighty power working around and through them. When they didn’t obey, they didn’t experience His mighty work. Obedience in many ways is our moment of truth. This is what we will do. We will reveal what we believe about Him. It will determine whether we will experience His mighty work in and around us. It will determine whether we will come to know him more intimately. 1 John 2:3-6 states, “We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him, but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.” How do we know we have come to know Jesus Christ? What is one clear indication that a person does not know Him? What does God do in the life of anyone who obeys His Word?
We come to the moment of truth when we chose to obey God. We cannot obey God, if we don’t believe and trust Him. We cannot love him unless we believe and trust Him. We cannot love Him unless we get to know Him. The Holy Spirit will helps us to know Jesus. You then will experience Him in new ways. We will come to know God when we obey him. When we know that God loves us, we never have to question His directive. It will always be for the best. We obey it, we don’t have to question it. If we don’t obey him, that indicates that you do not know him.
Obedience is very important. Jesus stated in Matthew 7:21-23, that if we don’t do the will of God, then he does not know us. The benefits of obeying God is God will be our God, and it will go well for us. God blesses those who obey him.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Teach us your ways, to follow your decree. Give us understanding and We will keep your law and obey your law with all our hearts. Direct our ways of your commands.
In Jesus Name
Amen
