On Eagles Wings

On the third new moon after the people of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.  They set out from Rephidim and came into the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped before the mountain, while Moses went up to God.  The Lord called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people fo Israel: You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles wings and brought you to myself.  Now, therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant,  you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine!  Exodus 19:3 -5

God is preparing the Israelites to receive The terms of His covenant.  God chose the Israelites to be his special people, to have a relationship with him.  This covenant also included His blessings to them.  God chose Israelite to help reveal his purpose of redemption, to bring people back into relationship with him.  This is for all nations.  The law he gave them to start of pointing the way.

The phrase on eagles’ wings is a great illustration of how God cares for us.  Eagles catch their young with their wings when the babies are learning how to fly.  This shows God’s tender love for us.  When we choose to obey and follow God, he catches us also.

Israel is God’s chosen people.  His special treasure.  God loves all of his people.  Israel though had a unique relationship with God.

Do you have a relationship with God?

Do you see God as eagles wings in your life?

Do you realize that you are God’s special treasure also?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your great love for us.  I pray that we will see that you want a deep relationship with each of us.  I pray that we will choose you as you chose us.  I thank you for the great care that you give us.

In Jesus Name

Amen
