Only Jesus Satisfies

But seek first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Matthew 6:33

What is your go-to thing to find satisfaction for a moment in your life?  Mine is a diet coke or chocolate with caramel.  You know the time in your life where things are just hectic and you are hungry, but you don’t have time to stop and eat.  Or how about the times where you need time to stop, but it won’t.  What is the one thing that you grab to help you through that time?  That is what I am talking about.  Today we are going to focus on what we choose to help satisfy us.

Read Matthew 4.  Recap what you read.  Now let’s look at Matthew 4:2-4.  How did satan approach Jesus in this situation? First of all, Satan came to Jesus.  IF he came to Jesus, we must also know that he will approach us in our weakness.  What is the second way Satan tempts Jesus?  Remember Satan tempted Jesus at His weakest.  He will do the same to you.  Pay attention to what your weakness is.  This is where Satan will try to tempt you to put satisfaction in this spot.

How does Jesus respond to this temptation?  He responds to Satan by started by saying, “It is written.” He quotes scripture!! He doesn’t bargain with him either.  What a great example Jesus sets before us. Read Hebrews 4:15. What does this tell us about how Jesus handled temptation?

Let’s read Deuteronomy 8:3.  Is there anything similar to this verse and what Jesus said?  If you want, go ahead and highlight a similar portion of what Jesus said and what is in this passage.  What does it mean to live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord?  Read Exodus 16:1, 6-7.  What happened with the Israelites here?  What do we know about the Israelites and their physical and spiritual hunger?  Did they choose God or reject Him?  We can live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord by being obedient to what he is calling us to do and to live.

Read Hebrews 4:12.  How deep can God’s word penetrate in our lives?  Why do we need the truth of God’s word to cut so deep into our hearts, minds, and souls? Read Joshua 1:8.  What four things does it tell us.

This is your footprint on how to live for God.  How has God’s word in the bible been a blessing to you?  There will be seasons of being in the wilderness, how are you going to handle those times?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you so much for your word.  Thank you for giving us a blueprint of how to live for you.  I pray that we will obey your words.

In Jesus Name

Amen
