John 14:1-16:33
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
Jesus is saying a few last remarks before the chaos of events begin, the surreal moment. In chapter 14, the main points are he is the way, the truth, and the life. We are not to be troubled but to believe in God and Jesus. Jesus is going to go to prepare a place in heaven for all believers. When it is done, he will come back for us. Jesus asks us to keep his commandments. If we truly love God, will be in obedience to his commandments. Next, Jesus promises while he is gone, the Holy Spirit will be with us.
The Holy Spirit is also called the “Spirit of Truth”, because he is the spirit of Jesus, who is the truth. The Holy Spirit testifies to the truth. He enlightens us with his truth, exposes lies and falsehood. The Holy Spirit will not be a counselor to those who are not completely devoted to Christ.
In chapter 15, this passage speaks of Jesus being the true vine and we are the branches. There are two kinds of branches: The fruitful and the fruitless. If we are fruitful in our walk in Jesus. Jesus will prune and torn as we grow in him. For the fruitless, he will cut those branches off. This means that we will be disconnected form the vine, from our Triune God. We need to abide in Christ. We need to remain in him; Stay connected.
When we are persecuted for our walk with Christ, remember he was also persecuted. The world hates Jesus first and hates us for following Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit will be there to help us out.
Chapter 16 start with encouragement for us not to fall away. He restate the when he goes, the Holy Spirit’s main role with respect to promoting the message of Christ. He will convict us of our sinful life. The Holy Spirit will guide us to the truth. For a moment we will have sorrow over Jesus then we will have joy.
In the sorrow, can you find Joy?
Do you hear the Holy spirit speaking to you? dig deep! We sometimes like to ignore him.
Are you abiding in Jesus?
Are you being fruitful or fruitless?
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank you that you love us deeply. I pray that you, Holy Spirit, will guide us and speak to us about what needs to change in our life.
In Jesus Name
Amen
