Passion Week: Devotions Jesus’ Arrest and trial

Friday

Matthew 26: 47-27:26; Mark 14:43-15:15; Luke 22:47-23:25; John 18:2-19:16

Jesus is betrayed by Judas Iscariot.  Talk about high adrenaline rush.  Do you ever wonder it this was all fast motion or slow motion like the movies.  Have you ever went through a crisis and every thing seems to move in a fast motion yet in a slow surreal motion?  I mean a friend betrays you with a kiss, another friend cuts off a soldiers ear, and at that moment Jesus performs a miracle and heals the ear.  Then all your friends (disciples) run away and fled.  Wow!  How alone could one feel.  But Jesus probably already knew all this was gonna happen.

Then Jesus is lead to the hight priest Caiaphas, here the scribes and elders had gathered.  He is faced with a religious trial before them.  Peter denies him three times.  Judas commits suicide.  Jesus is mocked and ridiculed as a king.  I was spit on, hit in the face.

He was then handed over to Pilate the governor.   Pilot knew that Jesus had done no wrong that he was an innocent man. Since this is what the people wanted, he went along with them.  He washed his hands from the guilt. But washing our hands of guilt on truth, Does it really take our guilt away when we do not stand in bold for what is true?  Then the soldiers took Jesus down to the governor’s headquarters and they gather the whole battalion before him .  They stripped him and put a scarlet robe and twisting together a crown a thrones, put it on his head and put a reed his right hand, kneeling before him and they mocked him,  saying Hail! king of the Jews.  They spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. They mocked him some more and stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and lead him away to crucify him.

Are you a follower of Jesus?

Do you believe He is the Son of God?

Take today and stop and meditate on what God’s word says about His arrest and trial.  Can you hear and imagine him being beating.  Can you hear the flogging, the sound of the whip hitting Jesus.

To be continued later today!

Dear Heavenly Father,

This part of the passion week is so hard to focus on God.  I know that it is necessary, but so hard to know that we put Christ on that cross.  That our triune God loves us so much.  Thank you God for sending your son to pay the price for our sin, Thank you Jesus for paying the price on the Cross for my sin.

In Jesus Name

Amen
