John 17: 1-26; Matthew 26: 36-46; Mark 14:32-42; Luke 22: 40-46
This is Jesus final prayer to God. Jesus wants us to know and to show us His deepest desire to pray to our Heavenly Father. This prayer shows us as ministry leaders, pastors, parents, friends how to pray for others. We should pray over these subject matters, as Jesus did: that they may know the Lord intimately, that God with protect them, and they will constantly have the full joy of the Lord serving him, that they live by God’s standards of purity and truth in thoughts, actions, and character, be unified in love and purpose, lead others to Christ, and that their faith will endure so they can have eternity with God, and constantly experience God’s love and presence.
Then He goes to Gethsemane to pray more and privately. He asked his disciples to sit while he went to pray. Jesus took with him Peter and the two sons fo Zebedee. Jesus became sorrowful. He knew what was ahead physically and spiritually. Jesus spoke from his heart in this prayer. He dreaded what was coming. The burden of sin on him, separation from our Heavenly Father. Yet Jesus was obedient to his purpose of coming to earth. He came to pay the penalty of our sin.
Have you ever had deep sorrow?
Did you run to God in prayer?
Dear Heavenly Father,
I am at awe with your son. I praise him for one the great example he is for us. I pray that I will be a prayer like him. That I will run to you will things are hard. That I will be faithful and obedient.
In Jesus Name
Amen
