Passover Supper/Holy Communion

Luke 22:7-23

Matthew 26: 17-29

Mark 14: 12-25

John 13: 1-38

This is  the first day of the feast of unleavened bread.  The disciples made ready the passover.  They prepared this meal as they did every year.  John and Peter prepared it.

The hour came and they ate.  Jesus wanted to eat with his disciples  before he suffered.  This last supper on earth, was the beginning of us doing communion.  For one, we do this because he told us too.  We do communion as a remembrance of Jesus (1 Corinthians 11:24).

In remembrance, we observe all Jesus did for us in his life, death, and resurrection.  He took the place of the sacrificial animal.  We examine ourselves (1 Corinthians 11:28).  We are proclaiming His death (1 Corinthians 11:26).  We are participating in the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:16-17).

Since we are one body, when we take communion, we must follow Matthew 5:23-24, “Therefore, if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go, first be reconciled to your brother  and then come, and present your offering.  We as a body of Christ need to be in unity.  When we come to the cross that is the Altar of Christ.

This passion week – we are remembering Christ!  Everything he did for us in His death and resurrection.  In His brutal suffering He paid the price for our sin.  Don’t take communion lightly.  Instead, search yourself and be right before Our Messiah.  It wasn’t easy for him.  Take the time to study the passages above.  Let is soak into you mind, soul, and heart.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for sending Jesus to die for our sins.  Thank you for having us remember what his body and blood represent for his sacrifice.  I pray that we will seek you before we take communion.  I pray that we draw closer to you.

In Jesus Name

Amen
