Pride

But He gives more grace.  Therefore He says: God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.  James 4:6

Pride!  What do we know about pride?  What do we think or feel about pride?

Pride is opposite of humility.  Pride is a roadblock to revival.  When we have pride, we are proud and cannot see where we are spiritually.  We have pride, it drives us to promote ourselves and to protect our reputation.  Let’s read a few scriptures on pride.  Psalm 10:4 – “The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.

Psalm 31:23 – Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints! For the Lord preserves the faithful, and fully repays the proud person.

Proverbs 8:13 – The Fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.

Proverbs 11:2 – When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.

From these four verses, what is God telling us?  God hates evil, pride, arrogance, and perverse mouth.   It brings shame.  Pride doesn’t seek God.  He is not on our thoughts.

God is opposed to human pride.  It keeps us away from God.  When we have pride we rely on ourselves and not God.  God is repulsed by pride.  However, he is drawn to humility.  Read Isaiah 57:15.  Humility frees us from the preoccupation of ourselves.

God exalts the humble.  He promises to live in an intimate relationship with the humble.

Where are you personally at with pride?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for loving the humble.  I pray that we will seek you.  I pray that we will search ourselves for any pride in our lives and deal with it.  I pray that we will be humble.

In Jesus Name

Amen
