
By faith, the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient. Hebrews 11:31
Rahab, a prostitute that had faith in God. God used her for his plan and purpose. What do you think about God using a prostitute? Do you think God is capable of using a prostitute today?
Read Hebrews 11:31. Now read the rest of the chapter. Rahab, the prostitute, made it into the Hall of Faith!! Does she fit in, or is she a misfit? Of course, she does. So why do we try to paint her as something else than what she really was? God used her, so don’t think that God won’t use others who are not perfect. None of us are perfect here on earth.
Read James 2:25. How does this verse refer to Rahab?
She is mentioned in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Why is this important? Why is she mentioned in both testaments? The association with her former profession is made only where her testimony of faith. She was making a living as a prostitute when she decided to help God’s people and believe God over her own press. She believed that she could be delivered from death. Now that is faith. Read Romans 5:8 in reflection on Rahab’s story. Christ died for us all. Rahab didn’t clean up her act first. She believed, and then God cleaned her up. Read Joshua 6: 22-26. What do we learn about Rahab?
To get the whole account of Rahab, read Joshua 2. What parts do you like the most? First, what was Rahab’s faith? How did it begin? What promise did Rahab beg the spies to make to her? Third, what was the condition of binding the oath? Finally, what about the mark for deliverance from death is similar to the markings on the doorframe of the Israelites on the first Passover?
Read Joshua 2:14. Take some time and research the word kindly. How do you think a woman like Rahab was treated? How often do you think she was treated kindly and faithfully?
Read Joshua 6. Rahab and her family were spared. What does Joshua 6:25 imply happened to her? Read Matthew 1:1-16. What do these verses say? Look at the list of names. Who is mentioned!!! How is she identified?
God spared Rahab’s life was from death. The holy nation of Israel embraced her. She married an Israelite. She is in the genealogy of Jesus Christ. She was delivered and redeemed!
