Ruth: Part Two

Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you/ For wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God.  Where you die, I will die, And there will I be buried.  The Lord do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me.  Ruth 1: 16-17

In Ruth 2:13-16, what do we learn about Boaz?  He comforted Ruth.  God does the same thing for us.  God speaks kindly to us and comforts us.  Ruth goes home and shares about her day with Naomi.  While Ruth is not aware of everything that happens, Naomi sees more of what has happened in Ruth’s day.  She saw kindness (chesed) and generosity.  Chesed is the word used for “covenant loyalty or faithfulness.”  This is often translated for “lovingkindness” or “mercy.”  Naomi saw the hand of the Lord prospering her and Ruth.

Let’s jump up to chapter 3.  In verses 3-5,  what does Naomi tell Ruth to do? What is Ruth’s response?  Ruth obeyed Naomi’s instructions.  Continue to read verses 6-13. How does Boaz respond?  What did he say about Ruth? What is Boaz’s commitment to Ruth?

Boaz that following morning did all he could do to keep his word to Ruth.  Read Chapter 4:3-12.  What do we see about Boaz?  What was the response of the elders to the marriage of Boaz and Ruth?  What blessing did they give to Ruth? What do you see about the hand of the Lord in this family?

The Lord enabled Ruth to conceive, and she bore a son. Let’s continue to verses 14-22.  What was the response of the women concerning this family?  How did they view the Lord’s hand at work?

At the end of chapter 4, We see the lineage of Boaz and Ruth. They bore a son named Obed.  This is the lineage of King David, which is also the lineage of our True redeemer Jesus! Do you see the hand of the Lord at work?

Do you see the Lord’s hand in your life?  Think through the events in your life.  In what ways do you see the overruling hand of God at work? For many of us, we need to leave one’s gods of our culture.  Ruth did this with her whole heart and never looked back.  Ruth found security in God.  Do you need to find security?  or is it something else that God needs to be in your life?  Take some time and pray to God on your relationship with the one true Redeemer.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for having your hand at work in our lives.  We are so lost without you.  Help us to find our way to the true Redeemer.  Thank you for our Redeemer.

In Jesus Name

Amen
