What do we need grace for? Do we need grace to love a particular family member? Or how about to be faithful to your mate? or to take a specific step of obedience? Or how about grace to trust God with my longing or marriage? How about grace to honor our parents (or in-laws)? What about needing grace to lvoe your wife as Christ loves the church? Do we need grace to be kind and patient with our children? Are there any other areas that you can think of that we would need grace?
God’s grace is undeserved, yet it is not unconditional. God makes his grace available. He is eager to give it to us. However, there is one condition that has to be met. Let’s look at James 4:6, “But He gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” What kind of people does God oppose? Why does God oppose these kinds of people? What is the condition for receiving grace?
God opposes those who are proud. This means those who are self – sufficient. It is these kinds of people who think they do not need God. They can live their life without Him. God, though, lavishly give His grace to the humble. The ones who do acknowledge that they need him and are helpless without him.
Read Psalm 84:11, James 1:17, and 1 Peter 5:10. Who is the source of all grace? What do these verses suggest we should look to to get our needs met?
When you are suffering in whatever area of your life, humble yourself and seek God’s grace. Then thank Him for the sufficient grace He gives to you.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your sufficient grace that you give to us that are humble before you. I pray that we will be humble and acknowdledge that we need you and we can’t do life without you.
In Jesus Name
Amen
