Addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with heart, Ephesians 5:19
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Music! I have yet to meet a person who does not like music. Spirit – filled people are encouraged to participate in three kinds of singing.
The Psalms, it is referring to the Old Testament Psalms. The book of Psalms is considered to be like a book of songs for God’s people that went into the early church time period. This could represent singing God’s word in general.
Next, is hymns. Hymns were the early church confessions of their faith in God. Hymns also have the message of Christ. These songs are sang a church body. They also are about God’s traits and character and doctrine.
The last one is Spiritual songs. This is any song that honors God. It uplifts the worshipper. Spontaneous songs of praise which can be prophetic is included in this area.
Singing is a language of the heart. It is a way of expressing inner joy, praise, worship, love, longing, and thanksgiving to God. Singing can be an expression of the Holy Spirit in us. Whether in private or in public, all Christian songs should be directed at God as prayers and praise. Singing can be encouraging, building up, teaching, giving thanks, and praying. Singing Gods word is not for entertainment, personal pleasure, or display ones spirituality; it is to honor, praise, and worship God. This is in private and in public.
Do you sing to honor, worship, praise, and pray to God?
Have you found a song that up lifts your heart to God?
Does all the music we sing have to always honor God?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for music. Thank you for a way to meaning express ourselves to you. I pray that we honor you with our words whether we speak them or sing them! I also pray that the Holy Spirit speaks to us about all the music we listen to and if it honors you and goes with or against your word. That we will be obedient to what you want us to hear.
In Jesus Name
Amen
