Spending Time With God

No temptation has overtaken you, except what is common to humankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

Have you realized that having a personal bible study time with God helps cultivate time alone with God?  Who is the person you spend most of your time with?  What do you love about this person?  What is something surprising you have learned about this person from when you have spent time with them?

When you are married, you get to know your spouse quite well.  You know them better over time then you did while you were dating.

How do we develop our relationship with God over time?  Why is it easy for mature followers of Jesus to confuse spiritual activity for spiritual maturity?  Have you done this?

Does a Christian want to sin?  Does a Christian have to sin?

Lets read the following passages.   “No temptation has overtaken you, except what is common to humankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.  1 Peter 1:3

According to these verses, what options do we have as Christians when confronted with sin?  He provides a way out, and we have His divine power.

“If you love me, keep my commands.   Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”  John 14:15, and 21.  How is our willingness to sin related to our love for God?  How you found this to be true in your own life?

Has pride and self-sufficiency kept you from pursuing God? Is this happening in your life right now?

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:  “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”James 4:6.   Why does our humility grow in proportion to our love for God?  How can we be committed to spending time with God without becoming just another activity we do for God?

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for giving us your divine power to resist prayer.  I pray that we will spend time with you because we want to and that it is an activity that we check off.  I pray that we will not be prideful in our time spent with you.

In Jesus Name

Amen
