Spending Time With God

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. Mark 1:35

Read the following passages and then answer the following questions.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,  that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”  Psalm 119: 103-105, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore, I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

What are these passages saying?  What do they teach us about God and Jesus?  How do these passages describe the Bible?

Do you get benefits from reading the Bible and spending time with God?  Have you benefitted from investing in the same relationships Jesus Himself invested in?

How do we invest in our relationship with God?  First, we invest in our God Time.  Jesus put spending time with God as the top priority in His in life.  We need to set a time apart from our regular to-list and spend time fellowshipping with God.  Find some time in your day and spend with Jesus. This means that we spend a portion of our time with God in prayer, in His Word, and pausing to listen to him speak to us.

The inspiration of the Spirit of God, the Bible, is written so that the human authors are willing and integral participants.  The very words of Scripture are God’s own words.  Reading God’s word and maybe even memorizing it is time spent hearing directly from God.

Then through prayer, we are communicating with God.  We can speak and hear from Him.  When we put God first in our day, it will impact the way we face our day.  Yes, this does mean that we might have to wake up earlier then what we want to.  However, isn’t spending time with our heavenly Father worth it.  I know for me personally, if I don’t start my day out with Him first, then I don’t make time for him.  I also don’t love others as well as I do when I spend time with Him first.  Find the time and place and meet with God daily.

Do you have a time and place where you spend time with God? If you do, do you put it on the calendar?   Do you guard this time with God so that other things don’t creep into the time alone with God?  If so, how do you guard this special time?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for wanting to spend time with me.  I pray that we will desire to spend time with you and set a time that is only for you.  I pray that it will no longer become a habit to check off our to list but to have an intimate time with you.

In Jesus Name

Amen
