And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. Romans 8:38
Are you or do you know of anyone who is controlling? If we are all honest with ourselves we all like to control things in our lives. When we choose to follow Jesus, we have to give up our control and surrender it to the Holy Spirit.
Read Romans 8:5-17. According to verses 5-8, our flesh and sinful nature love control. Our flesh/sinful nature think about sinful things. When we think and ponder on sinful things it leads to death. Our posture towards God is always hostile to God. When we surrender our lives to the Holy Spirit, we then think about what pleases the Holy Spirit. When we are letting the Holy Spirit have control we will actually have life and peace in our lives. Our posture towards God is good because He is God.
God’s ways are so perfect. He knew that we don’t have the power to resist our sinful nature. So when Jesus left God’s plan was to send the Holy Spirit. Jesus even said the Holy Spirit was better them himself. Read John 16:7. What do we know about the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit lives in every person belonging to Christ. He gives us spiritual life. His power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to put to death the deeds of our sinful nature. Those who are led by the Holy Spirit are children of God. His Spirit doesn’t make us fearful slaves. God adopted us as His children and uses the Holy Spirit to remind us that we belong to the Father. What a great God we serve!!!! How do you live as a child of God? A fearful slave or an adopted heir? How do handle life situations that you know you have to let the Holy Spirit have control?
Yielding to the Holy Spirit is an internal experience. Remember the beginning of the passage of today. One of the keywords is “think about”. We need to let our minds ponder on things that please the Holy Spirit. It”s letting go of that control. It is not a checklist or a formulaic method. It is all about our relationship with our Triune God. We need to make a daily decision to dig deep and develop a closeness with the Holy Spirit who lives within us. We need to let the Holy Spirit have the authority in our lives to make decisions so that He is much more than an advisor who makes suggestions.
Are you ready to Surrender to God and Let our Triune God be in control?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Your Word is so wonderful and thanks for your Word. Thank you for your detailed plan for your child. I thank you for the Holy Spirit and his guidance in our lives. Father, I pray that we will let him have control of our lives. Help us to let go of control and let Him make the decisions in our lives. I pray that we will each trust you wholeheartedly.
In Jesus Name
Amen
