    Joseph: Part 2

But he considered these things, behold, an angel of the lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will bear a son, and you shall call him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.  All this took place to fulfill what the Lord as spoken by the prophet:  Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel (which means, God with us).  When Joseph woke from  sleep, he did as the angel of the…

    Joseph: Part 1

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about:  His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together she was found to be what child thought the Holy Spirit.  Because Joseph her husband  was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.  Matthew 1: 18-19 Let’s start with a little history.  There are three steps to a Jewish marriage. Step 1: The families agree to the union Step 2: They make a public announcement At this point the couple are pledged to each other.  This is  like our present day…

    Mary:Part 5

And Mary said, “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.  From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me – Holy is His name.  His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.   He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; He has scattered those who are proud  their inmost thoughts.  He has lifted up the humble, He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.  He has helped his servant…

    Mary:Part 3

And the angel answered her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy – the Son of God.  And behold, your relative Elizabeth  in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.  (37) For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am a servant of the Lord; Let it be to me according to your word.”  And the angel departed from her. Mary- Part 2

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.  But  the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.  You will be with Child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Sons of the Most High.  The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end,”   “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel,”since I am a virgin?” Luke 1: 29-34…

    Mary- Part 1

In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David.  The virgin’s name was Mary.  The angel went to her and said,”Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”  Luke 1:26-28 Mary was a young girl betrothed to be married.  Betrothal was a legal agreement that was much more binding than an engagement and binding as the actual marriage. The only way to dissolve it was through a divorce.  She got to be the Mother to our Messiah Jesus, the very son of God.  She was an…

Old Testament Prophesy – Part 2

The scepter shall not depart from Judah, not the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute come to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the people. Judah’s descendent would hold a position of generational authority over the other tribes of Israel.  This part of the promise was fulfilled when Israel’s royal link came through King David, a descendant of Judah.  “Until tribute comes to him,” is reference to the Messiah, the one to be the last fulfillment of the promise. Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for the last fulfillment of the promise of our Messiah.  Help us to serve and to obey your word. In Jesus…

    Old Testament Prophesy: Part 1

Isaiah 40:1-11 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.  Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received for the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.  A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare they way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.  Every Valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.  And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has…

Finally, the Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul.  I have rejected him as king of Israel.   Now fill your horn with olive oil and go to Bethlehem.  Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my new king.”  But Samuel asked, “How can I do that?  If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.”  “Take a heifer with you, ” the Lord replied, ” and say that you have come to make a sacrifice to the Lord.  Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you which of his sons to…
