    Passion Week: Devotions

Thursday John 14:1-16:33 Jesus Comforts His Disciples Jesus is saying a few last remarks before the chaos of events begin, the surreal moment.  In chapter 14, the main points are he is the way, the truth, and the life.  We are not to be troubled but to believe in God and Jesus.  Jesus is going to go to prepare  a place in heaven for all believers.  When it is done, he will come back for us.  Jesus asks us to keep his commandments.  If we truly love God, will be in obedience to his commandments.  Next, Jesus promises while he is gone, the Holy Spirit will be with us.…

Mark 11:9-10 – And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, Hosanna, Blessed is he who comes in  the name of the Lord!  Blessed is the coming Kingdom of our Father David!  Hosanna in the highest! I have listed next to the picture passages of the Triumphal Entry.  Please take the time and read each one.  See if you can see what is similar and different.  Hosanna, means “save”, the people had a different idea about what salvation meant then what Jesus meant. The people thought that the Messiah would be a social activist and a…

    Know God

And no longer shall act one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, “Know the Lord,”  for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord, for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.  Jeremiah 31:33-24 God gave a distinctive feature of the new covenant.  A gift of a new heart and a transformed nature.  He gives this to those who surrender their lives to Him.  We get a new heart and transformed life by the Holy Spirit’s work in our life.   The Holy Spirit’s enables us to respond to God and gives us a desire to…

    Pay Attention for Forgiveness

Pay attention to yourselves! If you brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents forgive him.  Luke 17:3 “Don’t Judge!” is a phrase we hear a lot lately. I do think there is a time when we shouldn’t judge and this is towards non believers.  All we can do is pray for them and let God’s light shine through us.  We need to be loving towards them. Let’s take a look at the word rebuke.  It means according to dictionary.com, is to express sharp disapproval or criticism of (someone) because of their behavior or actions.  In this verse, is saying that if we see our brothers and sisters in Christ sinning, we…

    According To His Own Mercy

But after the kindness and love of God our savior  toward man appeared, he saved us, not because  of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,  Titus 3:4-5 God sure does show us kindness and love.  We have no excuse for being self – exalted or mistreating of others in thoughts or action.  Since God shows us mercy, we are to show mercy to others. Our changed life is attributable to the manifestation of man because of God.  He appeared to us in human form.  God lived among us to save us, not for the works we…

God’s Love Has Been Poured Into Our Hearts

And hope does not put us to shame,  because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.   Romans 5:5   Hope!  We have hope in God and hope, doesn’t put us to shame.  God’s  hope is not wishful thinking. Man put’s their hope in many, many things that bring them shame.  That hope brings them no fulfillment. When man puts their hope in God, they will have no shame.   It’s a blessed change when we become a true believer. We are justified by faith, we have peace in God.  God’s love has poured into us, we have the…

God’s Plan Out of Love For Us

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done s in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.   Titus 3: 4-5 God’s love flows through Christ.  We are delivered out of our misery only by God’s grace and mercy. The Holy Spirit flows through God to teach, regenerate, and  save us sinners through God’s love, grace, and mercy; we have a changed life. Through this we will want to do works for God’s kingdom.  We are not saved by works, but by God’s love for us that…
