    Meditate On God

One be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses My servant commanded you.  Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.  This Book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.  For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.  Joshua 1:7-8 The Israelites had to be committed to God by obeying His written word.  The law…

    Developing a God Memory

Then they believed his promises and sang his praise.  But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his counsel.  Psalm 106:12-13 Do you use stones to remember what God has done for you? Read Joshua 4:4-7.  What did Joshua ask each leader to do?  Why? It is to have an item that will help us remember what needs to be remembered.  What were these stones to be a sign to the Israelites forever?  Isn’t this what we have been doing this past week with answering the questions of our past? Our goals for our commitment to God should be that…

    Rahab: Part Two

Now Jericho was strongly fortified because of the Israelites—no one leaving or entering.  The Lord said to Joshua, “Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its fighting men over to you.  March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry seven ram’s-horn trumpets in front of the ark. But on the seventh day, march around the city seven times while the priests blow the trumpets.  When there is a prolonged blast of the horn, and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty shout. Then the city wall will collapse, and the people will…

    Rahab: Part One

Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men as spies from the Acacia Grove, saying, “Go and scout the land, especially Jericho.” So they left, and they came to the house of a woman, a prostitute named Rahab, and stayed there. Joshua 2:1 Rahab was a harlot or, in other words, a prostitute.  She grew up in a pagan Canaanite culture of Jericho.  This culture worshipped Baal and other idols.  Joshua was the new leader when we first hear about Rahab.  How and why did the spies meet Rahab? Read Joshua 2:2-7. What do we learn from this passage?  The king of Jericho learned that spies of Israel were there.  He…

Encounters With God Are God Size

He did this so that all the peoples of the earth  might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you (Israel) might always fear the Lord your God.  Joshua 4:24 God is interest in the world coming to know Him.  The only way we will know Him is by seeing him at work.  We know Him  by his nature, When we see His nature expressed in His activity. Are you a believer in that God will ask you to do something that you can’t do?  I am not.  If God only asked us to do what we can do or are comfortable with, where does…

    The fight Amongst Us

When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked,  And behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “ are you for us, or for our adversaries?”  And he said,” No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.“. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him,” what does my Lord say to his servant?”  And at the commander of the Lords Army said to Joshua,” takeoff your sandals from your feet, for the place where you were…

    God’s Help

And Joshua said to the people of Israel, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God.”  And Joshua said, “Here is how you shall  know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites , the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the  Amorites, and the Jebusites.  Be hold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth  is passing before you into the Jordan.  Now therefore take twelve men from each tribe a man.  And when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the Lord, the…

    Heavy Hands

Then Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim.  So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek.  Tomorrrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of GOd in my hand.  So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the  top of the hill.  Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and  whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed.  But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his…
