    Solutions to False Teachers

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless – not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.  Titus 1:7 Read Titus 1: 5-16 There are two solutions to overcome false teachings.  First, you appoint godly elders to lead the house churches.  Titus’ main task was to appoint godly elders (pastors) to the churches.  These leaders needed to be people that know God.  Their lives show it.  Putting godly leaders in churches still needs to be applied to today’s churches.  How does Titus recognize a godly leader? “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my father who is in heaven. On that day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, your workers are Lawlessness.   Matthew 7:21-23   Jesus taught the carrying out God’s purposes and desire was a condition for entering the kingdom of heaven.   This does not mean that we can earn spiritual…

Relating To Self and The Rich

But godliness with contentment is a significant gain.  1 Timothy 6:6           What is the balance of contentment and wanting more?  Read 1 Timothy 6 Isaiah said some people are like greedy dogs.  Read Isaiah 56:11, Luke 12:15, Hebrews 13:5.  We need to be content with what we have and what we honestly earn to have those things.  Paul warns that the desire for riches is a temptation and a trap – an invitation to ruin and destruction.  Paul warns us that we cannot serve God and money – we must choose one or the other.  The love of money is the root of many evils,…

Women And The Church: Part 2

Reread 1 Timothy 2:8-15.  Also, keep in mind his purpose, as he stated in 1 Timothy 3: 14,15.  Now make a list of what a woman should do, what she is not allowed to do, and why.  Where is this pattern of behavior to be implemented?  Keep everything in context, don’t jump to conclusions or opinions. Who are some women in ministry that Paul commended? Why does Paul emphasize that sin came through Adam in Romans 5:12-20…

Women And The Church: Part 1

Let’s review a little bit of what we know about 1 Timothy.  What is Paul’s purpose in writing? He wants you to know how to conduct yourself where? Read 1 Timothy 2: 8-15. How are women to adorn themselves, and how is she not to adorn herself? Now let’s cross-reference this passage with 1 Peter 3:1-6. What insights do you gain? Now read Song of Solomon 1:9-11 and Genesis 24:10-30, 53.  What do these passages say about jewelry, especially gold?  Is Paul forbidding a woman to wear jewelry? Or is God’s emphasis on the inward adornment versus the outward appearance? From these references, it seems that God is more concerned…
