The Body Of Christ- Part 1

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought,  but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function.  So in Christ we, though many, form one body, each member belongs to all the others.  Romans 12:3-5

Do you know what you part is in the body of Christ? Do you know how to work with the other parts of the body?

We as a church body need to learn to functions the Body of Christ.  Paul wrote to Rome and gave the instructions on how to function as a body together.  Let’s dig into Romans chapter 12.  Read verse one and two.  What  two things did Paul say to the members of the body, so that the whole body would be able to discern God’s will?  I will give you a hint.  What do we offer and what do we transform?  What do verses, 3, 10, and 16 tell us about pride and how to prevent it?  What does verse four say about comparing? What does verse 5 tell us?  In verses 4-6, it talks about us being different, why are the other members important to us?  For the following verses in 9-21 make a list of the gifts and then make a list of what your church does and doesn’t do.

There are many things in the church that can cause disunity.  However, the top one is pride.  Pride can cause all sorts of problems amongst us believers.  Another one is allowing yourself to be offended, which is pride!  We need to stay focused on God and be living sacrifices and renew our minds daily, if not throughout our day.  We as Christians need to practice what Paul says in verse 9-21.  Be informed though, obeying God is costly and following these instruction may be costly. Take a moment and pray to God about where He wants you to act more like the body of Christ.  Yes, this can be scary and we may want to not do this, however, this is an act of obedience and growth in our walk with Christ.

God gave us his son and the Holy Spirit.  When we think about spiritual gifts, we think that God  is giving us something.  God is giving us Himself.  The gift is a person.  The Holy Spirit is equipping us with His gifting to accomplish is purpose.  When we see our gifts in action this is the Holy Spirit manifestation in us.  John 14:10 is Jesus saying, It is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.  God was in Jesus when Jesus was doing miracles.  Apart from god we can do nothing.

Are you ready to do your part of being the body of Christ?  Is there areas in your life that you need to take before God and repent??

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the church.  Thank you for you plan of the church.  I pray that we will resist pride and offensiveness towards one another.  I pray that we will depend on one another for your glory.

In Jesus Name

Amen
