The Family Plan

. If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.  Romans 10:9-10

Do you or did you have plans one day of having a family?  We can make plans but God determines the steps.  In chapter 11 of Romans, Paul gives a brief summary of God’s family plan.  God chose Israel and grafted the gentiles.  God knew from the beginning His family plan.

Read Romans 11:1-10.  According to verses 5-6, how would you describe grace?  Grace is God’s kindness towards us.  It giving us good things we don’t deserve.  Paul again travels back in time with his letter to help the Roman church understand God’s plan.  There has always been a remnant of people, which means a small group, who have truly and wholeheartedly followed God by His grace.  God’s plan of grace is for all but very few accept this gift.

have you ever question God’s plan in your life?  Have you ever asked these kinds of questions, “Why hasn’t Jesus come back yet?”, or “Why is life so hard and complicated?”  Do you have any other questions that you have asked God about?  We can get focused on what is right in front of us that we need to zoom into a wide-angle view.  Paul gave the Romans a history lesson to give them perspective. We might not understand God’s plan but we can understand that He is always full of grace.

The Greek word for grace is Charis.  It means goodwill, loving-kindness, a favour: of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them the exercise for the Christian virtues.

God’s plan is good, isn’t that good news!!!!

Read Romans 11:11-24.  Do you see the family tree illustration?  Who is at the roots?  Who do the olive branches represent?  Who do the wild branches represent? Who do the broken branches represent?  God is kind and firm like a good parent.  He is decisive in justice.  By His grace, He has enabled everyone to be a part of His family tree to all those who will believe.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the wonderful grace you extend to us all. You are so wonderful.  Your plan is great.  Thank you for loving us all so much.

In Jesus Name

Amen
