The Holy Spirit Is Help From Heaven

Because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.  Nevertheless, I tell you the truth:  it is to your advantage that  I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you.  But if I go, I will send him to you.  John 16:6-7

Jesus’s last days on Earth, the disciples were dejected.  Jesus told them that because they are choosing to follow Him, their lives would be extremely difficult.  People would hate and reject them.  The disciples could not imagine facing the future without Jesus.  They needed comfort, assurance, and guidance.  Jesus gave them the Holy Spirit.

Why would it be to the disciple advantage that Jesus go away?

Jesus has been on this earth for thirty-some years.  Jesus was Immanuel.  God with us.  God’s plan was to have Jesus be the sacrifice for His children.  God never planned to have us be by ourselves.  The Holy Spirit was also apart of the plan.  Jesus asked the Father to give us humans a helper.  This helper would be with us forever while on earth.  This is one of God’s many promises.

The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity.  He is a divine person.  Just as Jesus is God, so is the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is co-equal with God the Father and Jesus.  The Holy Spirit dwells within us.  1 Corinthians 3:16 says, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”   How does this make you feel knowing that the Holy Spirit is always with you, you are not alone?  What implications does this give you for your life circumstances?

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.  John 16: 13-14.  What does the Holy Spirit do according to this passage?  How does the Holy Spirit make Jesus more real to us and to others through us?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for keeping your promises.  Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to be with us.  I pray that we will allow the Holy Spirit to be all that he is to be in our lives.

In Jesus Name

Amen
