The Lord’s Prayer – Part 1

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, be deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen  Matthew 6: 9-13

Our Father in heaven

Prayer is openly communicating with our Heavenly Father.  Prayer is a way to worship our Heavenly Father.  It is expressing honor and worthiness.  God is everything we could have in a father.  God will never let us down. He cares for us and guides us. Through our faith in Jesus, we have access to the Father at any time to worship him and talk to him.  He does have boundaries with sin.  He opposes sin.  He can punish or bless us, depending on if we choose sin or not.

Hallowed be your name

We should be concerned about bringing God honor in our prayers and in our lives.  God’s name is sacred and holy which is why we say hallowed be your name.  Hallow means to render or acknowledge.  It is to separate from profane things and dedicate to God.  We are separated from evil and are devoted to God.  We will bring glory, honor, and praise to God.  We must be attentive to God’s reputation, his church, his message, and his kingdom purposes.

Your kingdom come

As we pray we don’t want it to be about me, me, me.  We want to pray in God’s will. We need to pray for His kingdom’s purpose.  His power, authority, and  His way of life both on earth and in eternity.  We must pray for His power to be shown here on earth.  This includes us following Jesus’ instructions, exercising God’s power to destroy the works of Satan.  To heal the sick, and promote truth.

Join me tomorrow as we continue to learn more about the Lord’s Prayer.

Does prayer to God hard for you?

Do you struggle with what to say to him?

Are you intimidated?

I pray that you will learn that you can pray to God just like you would a friend.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for letting us have a model of how to pray to you.  I don’t know why it is so scary, intimidating, and hard to talk to you.  I pray that we will learn from this prayer, and be able to talk to you freer.

In Jesus Name

Amen
