The Power

“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ.  It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes – the Jew first and also the Gentile.  This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight.  This is accomplished from start to finish by Faith.  As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life. ”  Romans 1:16-17

Read Romans 1:1-17.  What comes to mind when you hear or see the word power?  Are there times in your life when you feel powerful and at times you don’t?

God is power.  We serve a powerful God, who has news for the people he created.  Good News has the power to change everything in our lives.  Its the Holy Spirit of God, who gives us power.  If you are a believer, Christ resides within you, giving you the same power that raised Jesus from the grave.

We are not victims of our circumstances.  We have the power of God living inside us to help us through all the brokenness of the world.  Let this sink deep into your soul – The reality of the Holy Spirit’s power in your life even when you feel powerless.    Is there any area in your life that you feel powerless?  Remember you have the resurrected power living inside you.

Before we go any further, let’s define power.  The Greek word for power is dunamis.  The English word that is derivative is dynamite.  Dynamite has the power to change the landscape.  The Good News of Christ has the power to change the landscape of your life.  I love that!  Don’t you?  The Good News of Christ can change our thinking, our attitudes, and our perspective.  Have you experienced God’s life-changing power in your life?

Can you take a moment and rewrite the verse above into your own words?

There is another word I would like us to look at.  This word is FAITH. The Greek word for Faith is pistis.  Based on Hebrews 11:1 the definition of Faith is that it shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.  What do you think Faith means?

Would you like to see the “dynamite” power of the Good News in your life?  Here are a few ideas to think about.  Please don’t let this limit your own ideas for your life.  Do you have a sin you’d like to overcome? Do you have a new thought pattern you’d like to embrace?  Do you have a spiritual discipline you’d like to be more consistent in practicing?  Do you have a sense of peace you’d like to maintain in a difficulty?  Through faith in Christ, we can receive God’s power.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your son, Jesus Christ.  I thank you for the power you give us through Him.  God, I pray that we will take the time to search within us and see if we have a growing faith in you and to see where your power is in our life.  Please show us if there is an area that we feel powerless, that we have you and your power.

In Jesus Name

Amen
