The Practice Of Blessing

On him, we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers.  2 Corinthians 1:10-11

Prayer!  It is so important.  There are many different ways prayer can look like for a person.  One thing for sure is though, is that prayer is a primary discipline of our faith.  This is what God wants to infuse with supernatural power.  We don’t want to become legalistic about our prayer life. Prayer is communication to God.

There are many ways to do pray.  Jesus gave us a model of prayer called the Lord’s Prayer.  Take time to look that over.  It is found in Matthew 6: 6-13.  One to pray is to use the acts acronym.  The A is for adoration.  This is us telling God how great he is.  C is for confession.  This is where we tell him our wrongdoings and sin.  T is for Thanksgiving. We need to thank God for all that He does for us.  S is for supplication.  This is the part where we can ask God for the things we need.

We can write our prayers out on paper or pray out loud.  There is no wrong way to talk to God.  You can make a prayer journal with tabs breaking up the subject matter to pray about.  For example, I have a prayer journal, and I have a section for family, government, self, scripture, community, outreach, etc.  I also have a wooden block of wood that I decorated and made all cute and fun.  Then on this board is family, government, church, scripture, and others.  Then I made little circular pieces of wood that I made a list of all the things or people that I would pray for on a specific day—for Instance, Mondays are my day to pray for all my family.  Tuesday is for my country.  Wednesday is for my church, etc.  Another way to pray is to write down who you are praying for, their relationship to you, what they need prayer for, and scripture to go along with it.

Our prayers will be different according to the season that we are in.  There will be times when we will be in spiritual warfare, to a time of peace, harvest, and relative ease.

Read Deuteronomy 30:6.  What does this verse say.  How could you use this verse in your prayers?  Look at Psalm 90:14.  How can you turn this into a prayer? How about Proverbs 30: 7-9.  Where would this scripture fit for praying?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this wonderful day. I pray that we will have a desire to pray to you for all people. God, help us to find scripture to pray over people.

In Jesus Name

Amen
