The Reason For the Season

So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, ” Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals!  You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.  And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head and you will strike his heel.”  Genesis 3:14-15

How many times do we read this part of the bible and we think there is nothing more to learn?  However, its the start of all of our whys.  Adam and Eve entered into the perfect world.  They have the perfect intimate relationship with God.  There were no issues between God, Adam, and Eve.  We all know that this comes to an end when they eat the forbidden fruit. Then came the separation.  On that day was the day we started to live in the darkness.  Things changed that day for everyone and for the future.  What we desired was no longer to be.  Not until God’s timing of a savior comes.  From Adam and Eve to Mary and Joseph, the people were waiting for God’s promise of a Messiah to come.  For a savior to come to save them from a hopeless world.

Since the Fall, nothing was the same.  Humans have been waiting, yearning for fulfillment. People are desire something, yet not sure what that something is.  Old Testament people who followed God had to offer sacrifices and offerings just to be covered for their sins.  Yet, there was still the yearning to have a closeness to God.  To be in His presence, yet that couldn’t.  God was with them, but not like in the garden of Eden.

They wait with hope in God to fulfill His promise of the coming Messiah. They didn’t know when it would happen.  They just waited in hope.  They put their trust in God to fulfill His word.

In the song, “O Holy Night”, a few lines talking about the world.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining, . . .

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices . . .

A weary world.

What is weary for you today?  What hope are you waiting for in the Lord?

Join me as we walk through the bible to learn about hope, peace, joy, and love this Christmas Season and why we celebrate Jesus’ birth.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your hope.  We are weary, tired, and seeking.  We are searching and desiring to have an intimate relationship with you again.  I pray this season we will have new light shine upon us as we wait on You and your plans and purposes.

In Jesus Name

Amen
