The Word of God

Now Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the Lord, obey it, and teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel.  Ezra 7:10

Do you love the word of God?  Psalm 119: 1-2 says, Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord!  Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart.

According to these two verses, how should we respond to God and His Word?

We need to walk, to keep, and to seek him with our whole heart.  Do you find that to be hard?  I sure did when I made my complete commitment to follow God.  So thankful God is a patient God.  I am thankful he encourages us each day to keep spending time with him.  Let’s look further in Psalm 119: 11, 24, 28, 47, 98, 103, and 104.  What is the blessing found in each of these verses?

This is truly amazing how God blesses us through His word.  Go back and read Ezra 7:10.  What are the three things Ezra did to have a close relationship with God?  Ezra was serious about God’s word.  He studied it, meditated on it, obeyed it, and reproduced it in others’ lives.

Is your heart like Ezra’s heart towards God’s word?  What can you do you make it more like Ezra’s?

God’s word instructs us, confronts our wrong thinking and behavior, correct and redirect us when we go wayward.  It equips us for service in His Kingdom.  Consistent time in God’s word by reading, memorizing, meditating, and studying it can be both corrective and preventive result.  When we spend time in God’s word, we will grow spiritually.  Our relationship with him will grow deeper.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your word.  Thank you for inspiring your people to write it.  I pray that we will have the desire, the motivation, the commitment to do what Ezra did, and many other followers from the Bible.  I pray that we will meditate on your word, memorize it, studying and glean from your word.  I pray that what you show each of us, that we will apply it to our lives.

In Jesus Name

Amen
