Some false teachers today claim that the grace of God covers those who continue to practice sin day after day. Paul makes it clear, “everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness” 2 Timothy 2:19. To be a vessel of honor, we must turn away from wickedness and cleanse ourselves from choosing dishonorable, sinful purposes.
Read 2 Timothy 2:19-22. Grace does not hide the sin we practice. Grace teaches us to say “NO” to sin and “yes” to holy living (Titus 2:12). Vessels of honor turn away from what is wrong, and the power of the Holy Spirit turn towards and practice what is good.
Paul is urging Timothy to flee from the evil desires of youth. Youth may be led astray by seeking the approval of peers. Youth may also be led astray by seeking the support of peers. Also, foolish desires for knowledge about new philosophies. False teachers led many away from the truth in Ephesus under the banner of knowledge.
Our words and actions must honor God to be a vessel of honor. Look at Eli and his sons. Read 1 Samuel 2: 27-36. Eli knew that his sons were doing evil and did not remove them from the priesthood. Eli was known as dishonorable for shame, reproach, and being cursed.
We need to teach gently to avoid quarreling to be a vessel of honor. There are seducing spirits and doctrines of demons that deceive people (1 Timothy 4:1). People are captured by satan and doing his will, even while they think they are doing God’s will. Through gentle teaching, God may grant them insight into the truth. Jesus is an excellent example of being kind and gentle. How would you describe a gentle person?
Read 1 Peter 2: 22-23. God doesn’t call us to quarrel and fight. He calls us to love. Most of the people we will influence for Jesus are those who feel the love and kindness of God as we talk to them, work beside them, or live near them.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your love and gentleness. I pray that we will walk in your truth and keep seeking you.
In Jesus Name
Amen
