Under Grace

For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?  Romans 6:14 -16

God’s promises are more powerful and effectual for mortifying sin, than our promises to God.   Sin may be a challenge in a believer, and create a great deal of hardship, but it will not have dominion over us.  Sin will not have dominion over us, Sin will not rule over us, this does not mean we get to sin!  There is strength in the covenant of grace for us.

Some believers in Paul’s day thought these verses were saying that because grace pardons and forgive sins, they didn’t have to be as careful to resist sin.  However, we as believers have to daily reaffirm and resist sin.  We have to follow Jesus daily.  If we don’t resist sin, we will become a slave to sin again.  When we become christians, we have to daily choose who we are going to serve.  We cannot have two masters, we have to pick one or the other.  If we say we are christians then we have to submit to God and His authority.

Paul warns believers not to think that they can sin against God and get away with it.  There will be consequences for sinning.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your grace.  I pray that we will choose you and not the other.  I pray that we will choose to obey you and resist sin.

In Jesus name

Amen
