And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. Genesis 3:8
God created Adam and Eve in his image and in a perfect love relationship with himself. God walked in the Garden with his human creatures. Of course, God did not have legs and literally walk with Adam and Eve, but the metaphor expresses the companionship and harmonious relationship that existed between them. The Garden was a place where Adam and Eve could meet with God any place. No specific place had to be set apart for meeting with God because every place was appropriate—that is, until the Fall. Then they hid from Him. They had fear and shame.
When our relationship with God is where it ought to be, we will always have fellowship with Him. We will be there in His presence expecting and anticipating the relationship of love. We need to make an appointment with God to have time with him. How does God feel when we do not keep our appointment with him?
We need to have a love relationship with God that we meet with him in the quiet. We need to spend time there. When we spend time with God He enriches and deepens the relationship with Him. Do you struggle with spending time with God? You are not alone in this area. First, come to love God with all your heart. With your love, you will want to spend time with him and know Him more. When we love we love to spend time with the ones we love. This is how it should be with God also.
As we spend time with God, we will learn more about God, His Word, His purposes, and His ways. We will get to know God as we let him work in and through our lives. Spending time with God is not about knowing about him, but experience His unrelenting love.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your love. Thank you for desiring to spend time with each one of us. I pray that we will love you with all our hearts. Guide us to know how to spend time with you. Teach us how to walk with you. Help us to have a personal relationship with you.
