We Have A Mission

But how can they call on Him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about Him? And how can they hear without a preacher? Romans 10:14

A mission.  You and I are on a mission for or with God.  How was the first time you heard the gospel message?  Or at least it stood out to you?  I know being raised in the church, I have listened to it through Sunday School, children’s church, and my parents.  I remember that my attention to Jesus being my savior was listening to a record player of puppet singing songs about God and giving the salvation message at the end.  After the record player was done, I asked my mom if I could have Jesus in my heart.  Do you remember when you first heard the gospel message and made the decision to live for Jesus?  Or how about letting Jesus live through you?

If Jesus is living through us, our lives should look like Him.  Jesus loves all.  Even those who did not love or even those who hated Him.  The bible tells us about a woman at the well and Roman centurion.  Think about their encounter with Jesus.  Do you know their story?  If not, read it in the Bible. Read them in John 4 and Acts 22.    Jesus stopped and helped these people out.  He took the time to care for them.  He was thoughtful, intentional, and not in a hurry.  Even when he was tired and weary, he took the time to minister to others who didn’t know God.  Jesus valued these people.  Therefore, we must also.

Romans 10:14 teaches us the necessity of Jesus’ followers telling other people about Jesus.   God’s plan is for us to spread His good news to everyone.  Do you see this as your responsibility as a Christian?

And the one who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.  I have come as a light into the world so that everyone who believes in Me would not remain in darkness  John 12:45-46.  What does this mean about Jesus being light?  How does Jesus reveal who God is?

In Matthew 5:14-16, it says, “You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden.  No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”  How does Jesus living in us lead us to be lights in the world?

For I have come down from heaven, not to do My will, but the will of Him who sent Me. John 6:38

What was the purpose of Jesus coming to earth?  If Jesus sends us, what does it look like for us to do His will?

But thanks be to God, who always puts us on display in Christ and through us spreads the aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.  For to God, we are the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To some, we are an aroma of death leading to death, but to others, an aroma of life leading to life. And who is competent for this?  For we are not like the many, who market God’s message for profit. On the contrary, we speak with sincerity in Christ, as from God and before God.  2 Corinthians 2:14-17

How might we be the fragrance of Christ to the world around us?   How is our desire to share Jesus with others related to the work He is already doing in our lives?  Where is Jesus asking you to spread His Light?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for loving us so much.  Thank you for your son.  I pray that we will be obedient in sharing Jesus’s light with the world.

In Jesus Name

Amen
