When Adjustments Are Necessary

Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot by my disciple.  Luke 14:33

Have you ever want to do what God asked you to do, but didn’t want to make any adjustments in your life?

We want God to speak to us and ask us to do things for him.  However, we don’t want to make any major adjustments in our lives though.  When God spoke to the people in the Bible about what He wanted to do through them, they needed to make some adjustments in their lives.  They had to adjust their lives to God.  When those adjustments happened, God accomplished His purposes through those around them.

There is a second turning point when adjusting your life to God.  The first turning point is crisis of belief, the second one is adjusting your life to God.  When you choose to make a life adjustment to God, you can go on with obedience. If you refuse to make the adjustment, you take the chance of missing out with what God has in store for you.

As soon as you have come to believe God, you put action to your faith.  You have to DO something.  Action is one of the adjustments you make in your life.  Obedience is also another part of the action that happens.  Our adjustments and obedience will be costly and those around you. Here are a few of the Biblical men who made adjustments for God.

Saul (Paul) had to completely change the directions in his life in order to be used by God to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles.  Matthew had to leave his tax collector job to follow Jesus.  Peter, Andrew, James and John left their fishing business to follow Jesus.  Jonah had to leave his home and being prejudice in order to preach in Nineveh.  These are just a few men to mention. There are many more in the Bible.  They made huge adjustments in their lives.  Everything in their life had to be surrender to God and adjusted to Him.  When this happened God began to accomplish His purposes through them.  Each one of them learned that by adjusting their life to God was well worth it.

Even Jesus had to make adjustments.  In Corinthians 8:9 says, You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his property might become rich.  Jesus empty himself to of position to redeem people.  If  you want to be a disciple of Jesus, you have no choice.  We have to make adjustments in our lives when we follow God. Until we make those adjustments, God can’t use us.  We tend to want to skip this step and go right to the believing in God to obedience.

When God wants to use you, you will have two adjustments in your life.  You have to believe in Him and then have and faith and put action to that faith.  Choose to make the adjustments in your life, so you can do what God is asking of you.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for using us and asking us to join you and your work.  I pray that we will choose to believe in you and make the adjustments in our lives that we need to, to follow you.

In Jesus Name

Amen
