You Are My Friends

Now you are my friends since I have told you everything the Father told me.  John 15:13-15

Do you have a friendship that you cherish?  When we are friends with Jesus, we get a treasure of the life-giving wisdom of the Father.  Let’s read some scripture about some of the treasures to be discovered from these words for your own life?

  • Matthew 6:1-4
  • Matthew 6:9-15
  • Luke 12:31-32
  • John 6:44
  • John 10:28-30
  • John 11:25-27

In Colossians 2:2-3 is says, “I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery—Christ. All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Him.  In Christ, all things are treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Sometimes the treasures of wisdom and knowledge can get lost in daily living.  The shame and guilt that we carry can put the treasure of Jesus in the garbage of our minds.  What we need to remember is that God forgives us of our sins.  He loves you! He will prune the bad stuff away from us.  When we can get past our guilt and shame, we will see that His love for us was there all along.

Read Psalm 139:1-18.  What does this passage tell us about How God loves and likes us?  Does it stir anything in your heart to consider what God thinks about you?  Today’s verse (at the top of the page) lets us know that He is our friend.  Jesus still has more to tell us when he ascended into heaven.  This will be by the Holy Spirit.  Read John 16: 12-15.  In verse 12, What did Jesus say He wanted to do?  Why couldn’t He do it?  What does this tell us about the role our readiness plays when it comes to hearing from God? How can we be ready to listen when He speaks?  What is the Spirit called?  What will the Holy Spirit say He will and won’t do?  How is the dual ownership of truth between father and Son described?  What is the Holy Spirit’s role?

Do you have hidden treasures with your walls – the priceless truths from the Father through Jesus that you need to bring out of hiding and put into the full display?  Our Triune God gives us wonderful wisdom and knowledge.  The hidden truths for us.  We just have to be His friend.  Then display those wonderful treasures.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for wanting to be our friend.  Thank you for loving us right where we are at.  I pray that we will seek you and choose to follow you.

In Jesus Name

Amen
