The main purpose of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is to provide power to communicate the message of Jesus to others. The purpose of the baptism is to receive power to deliver the message to those who do not have a personal relationship with God. We can have forgiveness, learn how to follow Jesus, and fulfill His purpose in our lives.
The greek word for power is dunamis. It means more than strength or ability; it refers to a power at work or in action. Luke points out in his gospel and in Acts, that the Holy Spirit’s power included the authority to drive out evil spirits and the anointing to heal the sick. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is God’s way of releasing the power of the Holy Spirit into the christians life.
Luke does not relate the baptism in the Holy Spirit to the first experience of Salvation. Luke describes it as a power coming onto the person who is already following Jesus. Then the Holy Spirit is working from within the person to effectively communicate Jesus’s message of salvation.
The Holy Spirit work in proclaiming and promoting the message of Jesus has to do with how he comes upon christians with God’s power. The Holy Spirit is the one who convinces people of their sins and of their need for God’s forgiveness. The Holy Spirit tells us the truth of Jesus’s death, resurrection for our salvation, and the personal relationship with God.
Do you believe in the power of the Holy Spirit?
